I feel I have been blessed. The VA was under a microscope when I exited the Air Force in 2006. I got a personal assistant provided to help me ‘cut through the red tape’ and I had a great experience with my VA. I then moved, and felt the personnel there cared personally for me. I do really like the people that helped me along while I was there. Now I am in Rapid City. I like my doctor and I feel like my service is fine for a 40-year-old man. I am a little disappointed that I had to drive very far and be triaged at an emergency room for what is actually a service-related recurring skeleto-muscular problem. In the long run everything worked out okay — but I have to believe if I were able to go to a local urgent care clinic it may have saved the VA money and have gotten me care quicker. I have heard a lot of horror stories about the VA, but I am okay with it and I do feel like the people that work there are wonderful. I wonder about the upper level administration though.
